Building your creative in Corel Draw 10

Corel Draw

  1. Start Corel Draw
  2. If the Welcome Screen appears choose New Graphic. Otherwise choose File New.
  3. Click Layout from the menu and choose Page Setup.
  4. Under Size. Normal Paper should be selected
  5. Choose Custom from the Paper drop down box. Make sure that "Inches" is showing in the measurement box.
  6. Enter the Height, Width and Orientation that match the size of the creative piece that you're building (see what creative sizes are available). For postcards, orientation will be Landscape. For Letters and Flyers it should be Portrait.
  7. Resize Current Page Only should be unchecked
  8. Bleed should be set to 0.0
  9. Click OK
  10. Click View from the menu bar and choose Guidelines Setup.
  11. Click Presets (on the left under Guidelines)
  12. Choose User Defined Presets
  13. Check the Margins box.
  14. Enter .25" for both the Top and Left Margins. If Mirror Margins is checked the Bottom and Right margins should automatically be set to .25". If Mirror Margins is not checked, enter .25" in the Bottom and Right margins as well.
  15. Click on OK.
  16. Depending on the type of creative piece you're creating, you'll need to insert pages by clicking Layout and choosing Insert Page. Postcards will have 2 pages (front and back). Letters and Flyers will have up to 4 pages (2 sheets front and back). Make sure that your page dimensions and orientation is the same as you entered in Step 6.
  17. Design and build your piece to your specifications.
  18. Save your document.
  19. Keep in mind the reserved areas on the creative that are reserved for the postage permit and the recipient address.

Printing to a PDF*

  1. Click File on the menu bar
  2. Choose Print
  3. Choose Acrobat PDFWriter from the drop down Name box
  4. Make Sure Print Range is set to Current Document and number of Copies is set to 1
  5. Click on the Properties button
  6. Choose the Page Setup Tab
  7. Click the Custom button and enter the dimensions and margins of your creative. The Height and Width should match the entries from stop 11 above. The margins should be .25".
  8. Choose the correct Orientation. For postcards, it will be Landscape. For Letters and Flyers it should be Portrait.
  9. Graphic resolution should be set to 300 dpi and 100% scaling
  10. Click the Compression Options Tab
  11. Make sure that Compress Text and Line Art is checked.
  12. Make sure that ASCII format and Downsample Images are unchecked.
  13. Color/Grayscale Images should be compressed using JPEG medium
  14. Monochrome Images should be compressed using CCITT Group 4
  15. Click the Font Embedding tab.
  16. Check the Embed All Fonts box. This will cause all of your fonts that you used to be saved with your PDF.
  17. Click OK
  18. On the Layout Tab, select As In Document for Image Position and Size
  19. Make sure that the Print Tiled Pages and Bleed Limit boxes are unchecked.
  20. On the Separations Tab, Print Separations should be unchecked.
  21. On the Prepress Tab, everything should be unchecked.
  22. On the Misc Tab, Output Color Bitmap should be CMYK
  23. Click Print
  24. A Save PDF File As dialog box will appear.
  25. Browse to the directory where you want to save the file to
  26. Enter the filename in the File Name box.
  27. Click save to create your PDF file.
  28. This is the file you will upload to MailnetExpress - remember the filename and the location.
* You must have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to use the PDF Writing feature.
