Building your creative in Microsoft Publisher 2000

Microsoft Publisher

  1. Start Publisher - The Wizards Screen appears
  2. Choose the Blank Publications Tab
  3. Click Custom Page Button (at the bottom left of the Wizard Screen)
  4. Click Special Size in the Choose Publication Layout
  5. Choose Custom from the drop down box in the Choose a Publication Size Area
  6. Enter the Height and Width of your creative piece (see what creative sizes are available)
  7. Choose the orientation. For postcards, it will be Landscape. For Letters and Flyers it should be Portrait.
  8. Click OK
  9. Click Arrange on the menu bar
  10. Choose Layout Guides
  11. Enter .25" in each of the margins (Left, Right, Top & Bottom) in the Margin Guides section
  12. Click OK
  13. Depending on the type of creative piece you're creating, you'll need to insert pages by clicking on Insert on the menu bar and choosing Page. Postcards will have 2 pages (front and back). Letters and Flyers will have up to 4 pages (2 sheets front and back).
  14. Type in the number of pages that you want to insert, make sure that After Current Page and Insert Blank Pages is checked
  15. Design and build your piece to your specifications
  16. Save your publication
  17. Keep in mind the reserved areas on the creative that are reserved for the postage permit and the recipient address.

 

Printing to a PDF*

  1. Click File on the menu bar
  2. Choose Print
  3. Choose Acrobat PDFWriter from the drop down Printer Name box
  4. Click on the Properties button
  5. Choose the Page Setup Tab
  6. Click the Custom button and enter the dimensions and margins of your creative. The Height and Width should match the entries from stop 6 above. The margins should be .25".
  7. Choose the correct Orientation. For postcards, it will be Landscape. For Letters and Flyers it should be Portrait.
  8. Graphic resolution should be set to 300 dpi and 100% scaling
  9. Click the Compression Options Tab
  10. Make sure that Compress Text and Line Art is checked.
  11. Make sure that ASCII format and Downsample Images are unchecked.
  12. Color/Grayscale Images should be compressed using JPEG medium
  13. Monochrome Images should be compressed using CCITT Group 4
  14. Click the Font Embedding tab.
  15. Check the Embed All Fonts box. This will cause all of your fonts that you used to be saved with your PDF.
  16. Click OK
  17. If you have a "Page Options" button click it and choose Print One Copy Per Sheet. Then click OK.
  18. Click Advanced Print Settings
  19. Choose Print full-Resolution linked graphics
  20. Uncheck Crop Marks and Allow Bleeds
  21. Check Use only publication fonts
  22. Click OK
  23. Set the Print Range to All
  24. Set the Number of Copies to 1
  25. Click OK
  26. A Save PDF File As dialog box will appear.
  27. Browse to the directory where you want to save the file to
  28. Enter the filename in the File Name box.
  29. Click save to create your PDF file.
  30. This is the file you will upload to MailnetExpress - remember the filename and the location.
* You must have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to use the PDF Writing feature.
