Building your creative in Adobe PageMaker 6.5

Adobe PageMaker

  1. Start PageMaker - If the Templates screen appears, close it.
  2. Click File on the menu bar
  3. Choose New
  4. Choose Custom for Page Size for Postcards, Letter for Letters and Flyers
  5. Enter the dimensions of the creative piece (see what creative sizes are available)
  6. Choose orientation (Wide for Postcards, Tall for Flyers and Letters)
  7. Make sure that Double-Sided is unchecked
  8. Enter the number of pages. The number of pages varies depending on the creative your are building.
  9. Enter the Margins. All margins (Left, Right, Top and Bottom) should be set to .25".
  10. Target output resolution should be 300 dpi.
  11. In the Compose to Printer box, choose the Acrobat PDFWriter.
  12. Click on OK.
  13. If you need to insert more pages, click on Layout on the menu bar and choose Insert Pages. Type in the number of pages you need and click OK. Postcards will have 2 pages (front and back). Letters and Flyers will have up to 4 pages (2 sheets front and back).
  14. Design and build your piece to your specifications
  15. Save your publication
  16. Keep in mind the reserved areas on the creative that are reserved for the postage permit and the recipient address.

 

Printing to a PDF*

  1. Click File on the menu bar
  2. Choose Print
  3. Choose Acrobat PDFWriter from the drop down Printer Name box
  4. Enter 1 in the Copies box.
  5. Choose All for the pages to print.
  6. Choose Both Pages in the Print box.
  7. Make sure that the Collate, Reverse, Proof, Ignore "Non-Printing" Settings boxes are unchecked
  8. Make sure that the Print Blank Pages box is checked.
  9. Click on the Setup button.
  10. Choose the Page Setup Tab
  11. Click the Custom button and enter the dimensions and margins of your creative. The Height and Width should match the entries from stop 5 above. The margins should be .25".
  12. Choose the correct Orientation. For postcards, it will be Landscape. For Letters, Flyers, Emails and Faxes it should be Portrait.
  13. Graphic resolution should be set to 300 dpi and 100% scaling
  14. Click the Compression Options Tab
  15. Make sure that Compress Text and Line Art is checked.
  16. Make sure that ASCII format and Downsample Images are unchecked.
  17. Color/Grayscale Images should be compressed using JPEG medium
  18. Monochrome Images should be compressed using CCITT Group 4
  19. Click the Font Embedding tab.
  20. Check the Embed All Fonts box. This will cause all of your fonts that you used to be saved with your PDF.
  21. Click OK
  22. Click the Options button
  23. Scale should be set to 100%.
  24. Printer's marks, Page Information and Tile should be unchecked.
  25. Click on the Color Button
  26. Check the Composite box
  27. Uncheck the Allow Printer Halftones.
  28. Click Print
  29. A Save PDF File As dialog box will appear.
  30. Browse to the directory where you want to save the file to
  31. Enter the filename in the File Name box.
  32. Click save to create your PDF file.
  33. This is the file you will upload to MailnetExpress - remember the filename and the location.
* You must have the full version of Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to use the PDF Writing feature.
